Apple, WIP Day 3

Today I started the first color layer. Whoo! I was really excited about it, but then quickly became depressed when I discovered:

1.)My dead layer wasn't dry. So....yeah.

2.)Either the grey is shining through too much, or the pigments in Dick Blick's paint isn't that strong. I know that pthalo green is pretty transparent, but their paint has no coverage power. Bummer.

3.)A second, and probably third color layer will be necessary.

I've been working on other things as well, but I'm not happy with them anymore. I just get depressed when I look at other people's work. I feel like I'm so far behind. I don't know how I could fix the problem. I don't think that MORE education would be the solution.

Anyway, I also started working on a portrait of my husband. I want to show my teacher that I haven't been totally slacking during the break.

You are just to hard on your self girl. You are way to talented, that you can't even see it. Some times when we are to close to our work, we can't see the problem. What I do when I'm having those bummer days, and trust me every artist does, I give my self a mental shake and step away, do something else, and come back to it when it calls you. I know it sounds a bit strange, but it works. Nothing happens before it's time. As in art, so in life. I'm always hard on myself, you sound like you're your worst critic. Don't be. your work is beautiful. Keep in your pace, your style, and don't try to do what other artist do. Everyone have their hang ups, even the best in the world. They just don't show it. As for taking more education. NO way! just keep doing your own style. What I've done is choose an artist that I really admire, and study their work, try to dive deep, and than teach yourself, by experimenting. DARE to make mistakes, that's the beauty of genius. You are beautiful, you are amzing and you are the master of your own world. Paint it, live it and most of all believe you are good, and the world will accept it too. LOL for you follow. PK

Yeah, beautiful.
Sorry, I haven't go through any fine art training before but love doing art.
I teach children art that bases on my self taught techniques.
I am not that good to comment but
I really love and amazed by your work, especially the light & dark attributes so clearly defined here.
Congrats!!! I think you are on the right track Tiffany.
