This is something that I've waited years for, and I finally got it. I'm overjoyed by the whole process of it.

Creating my own website has been on my mind for a whole year now, and I always found a way to make excuses for doing it. Not anynmore. I finally got my site up and running, and it feels great. Perhaps I may be able to liberate myself from etsy afterall?

Oh, btw, I'm hosting a Wordpress.org blog, and will probably stick to blogging there. Hmmm...I haven't decided what to do about possible having two blogs. But, I do pay to be there now....

Bloody Valentine....

A lover, and his prey. Vampire theme. I decided to go the unconventional route for this valentine's day...I don't know why. I think that I really just like weird love stories. I finally got to see "Thirst", and I think that's part of what inspired me.

BTW, Park Chan-wook is an excellent director. I recommend seeing any of his films. I really LOVED "Sympathy for Lady Vengeance." Excellent film, and a beautiful score.

Anyway, these will probably go up for auction on ebay in the next few days. From there, on to my Etsy site.

Sights

Just some interesting sights from the past couple of days.

It's been so cold here. When it gets to 30 degrees Farenheit I call it 'warm'. This is the frost that was waiting for me when I got off work one night.

Sweet potato french fries. Absolutely delicious, and more nutritious than white potato french fries. See my recent tweets if you want to know how to cook them:-)

Mayoree's panda. My mom bought it for her at the National Zoo. They had a lot of fun this past summer. I found this last night laying on the floor. I got my Argus Seventy-Five in the mail, and was trying it out. It's too much fun.

An oldish shot...From Christmas Day. All these birds were on my grandmother's back lawn. I think they were looking for worms...

Carrying a camera is good. I just wish my DSLR wasn't so HUGE, and clunky. Can't someone make a compact DSLR that doesn't cost a king's ransom?

Wahhhh!! (A Brief Rant)

So,I'll be posting a (kinda) brief rant before I post my goals for the new year. Here goes.

Recently, in the etsy forums there was a forum thread that really got my attention: Etsy vs. Ebay. The OP was a fine artist, Ebay veteran and having a b**** of a time selling there. Most Etsy sellers already know what I'm talking about: endless tweeting, blogging, promoting etc. just to get views. Usually when this sort of thread starts up people start bashing Ebay. Not this time. Now, a lot of people are actually considering going to that big auction site in the sky. Etsy requires a lot of WORK. Not to say that we don't expect to work hard to make sales, but more time than what seems worth it. After reading the first pages of the thread last week I decided to list some items on Ebay. 54 pages into the thread, and my first auction on ebay ended.

I sold my first item ever on ebay, and for the price I listed it for on Etsy. Strange, no?

Here's what I like about it: no promotion. I didn't have to harrass people on twitter, or get on facebook to do it. Ebay has the buyers, plain and simple.

I have worked incredibly hard in my shop, and I have nothing to show for it. Oh, I'm sorry, except the bills that I get from them for listing! Listing fees keep mounting, but my shop is still so lonely.

For a while, I thought that it was my art. So, just to test the waters I tried selling some of my art at a charity event on Saturday. I was already expected to sell some of my jewelry. The art was just a way for me to judge how people felt about the art.

I sold a photo, and an original drawing. Both of these items had been listed in my shop, but no one was looking or hearting them.

So, I think that Etsy just may not be the venue for me. I've had a shop on 1000 Markets since July, and I think that I need to work with that store more.

I've made more money in the past three days without Etsy than what I did last year from both of my Etsy stores.

That's one of my many goals for this year, including getting into some gallery shows. There is a group exhibition coming up at the end of this month that I'm dying to get into! Keep your fingers crossed for me.

And, I apologize for the rant. I was just so frustrated. I thought that I was creating all of this really terrible art that no one wanted to buy...I'm just glad that it's not me!

I'll be posting my goals later. I have a lot to think about now.

Where do people go when they die?

That's the one thing that I would like to ask god, if he actually exists...I'm fascinated with the concept of the afterlife. So, after posing this question to myself, this is what I came up with.

My new hobby

For the past couple of months I've been experimenting with printmaking. It's really fun and relaxing for me. It's a nice change from what I usually do.

Lino has turned out to be more fun than what I bargained for. My goal is to eventually buy some wood carving tools so that I can make woodcuts. I'm going to have to save up for that:-(

I also decided to close up my jewelry shop today. It's turned out to be more work than what it's worth. I've only had a few sales this year (in both shops), and they're really just cash cows. Goodbye etsy! I'll be closing the art shop before the 1st of January as well. I may post my stuff in my 1000 Markets shop, but I don't even think I should bother. I have a lot to think about.

I am glad about one thing though. My mom visited my house, and found a bunch of my art that she liked. I'm just going to give the stuff to her. One of the paintings that she liked is a new one. I wasn't even so sure I liked it. I'm glad it will find a good home. I at least have one fan for life:-) Thank god for moms!

Poor Emma--A Series

I'm busy all the time now with art. I love making it. I just can't stop. It's the only thing that's keeping me sane.

I've started yet another project. It's finished, but it was just a random idea. It involves one of my favorite novels: Madame Bovary, by Gustave Flaubert. It's a small series of four mixed media illustrations. I've created the series using bristol board with acrylic paints, oil sticks and conte crayons. Oh, and parts of the book that I butchered :-) Who knew that book mutilation could feel so good?

Thinking of Charles Darwin...And fish

I fell asleep last week at my laptop, doing my Bio homework. Of course, this class (on evolution and genetics) is centered heavily around the work of Charles Darwin, and the work of his successors. I was thinking of Darwin's years traveling South America; all of his discoveries. I dreamed about it while I was supposed to be doing my homework.

Then, I went to make an abstract painting. I stopped working on the painting. I got stuck. Then, I looked a little closer, and saw that yellow fish looking out at me. This is what happens when I arm myself with oil sticks and conte crayons!

Artist on the rise

Since my daughter was really young I've been encouraging her to make art. I noticed really early on that she liked to draw; she was constantly watching me make art, and drawing in my sketchbooks. Over the past year and a half I've bought her tons of her own art supplies, and watched her skills flourish. I like the art that she makes. It's interesting in ways that an adult mind can't always understand. It's fresh, energetic, and not weighted down with the worldly bull- that we adult artists create.

I've also created an interest in her for photography. She really likes the idea of photography. Even film! So, for a whole day I let her use a 35mm point and shoot camera. She really enjoyed the experience, and still carries the camera around to take pictures.

She thinks taking pictures of mommy is really funny.

If there's one thing that my daughter has taught me it's that you have to find a different way of seeing the world. In order to excel in art and photography you have to find the right angle.

I recently bought some Shiva Oil Sticks, and she had a ton of fun with those. She likes playing with my pastels/oil pastels. So, we both made a picture using the oil sticks. She did most of the work. I just drew in the sky and the clouds/monster. Mayoree really enjoyed it.

Now this picture is up on her wall. It makes her happy, and proud to see her art up on the wall. The same way I feel when I look at my art! I've promised myself that I will make an aritsts out of this one.

Number 2

I started this painting yesterday. I like it, but I still want to make some adjustments to it. I received some criticism for this painting...I don't know why, but it really hurt. I guess that's just the way criticism is. You either love it, or hate it.

I did some more work on the first painting. I like this one more than the second one. There's just something about the colors that I really like, but couldn't recapture with the second.

The whole process is actually a bit depressing. I don't know why...

New Painting--Nude; Abstraction

I really like this painting. The colors, the feel...everything. My husband likes what he called the 'grungy' feeling to it. My daughter said that it looked really scary. I don't know why.

I'm still working on it. I have a few adjustments to make. I'm anxious to get started on the next one. I'm going to try to make a series out of these. Might have to go to Blick Arts and spend even MORE money. Haha. I'm very tempted to buy some oil sticks, but so far I'm restraining myself well. The money for oil sticks could go to buying more surfaces to paint on. Or...nothing. There are so many supplies here for making art that I've run out of storage space. I want to use more of the materials that I have before I buy even more.

Still Going!

Yikes! I've been working on this painting for almost a whole year now. My goal is to finish it before 2010. I think it's starting to look better. I just need it to be done. I think I'm almost there. I've just decided that this is going to be the last coat of paint. The first coat of color paint took a whole 5 months to dry. During those 5 months all types of crud dried in the paint. I'm not going to let that happen again. Cleaning that crap is a pain in the @$$.

This painting has turned into the same thing. On the flip side, I will enjoy framing it, and then mounting it:)

Another addition to my shop. I have to admit that I wasn't crazy about this one at first. But, after being seperated from it during work, I started to like it more. Then, my husband noticed it, and said that he really liked it. So does Mayoree. But they don't count, right? I think the husband is a little biased anyway. Blue is his favorite color.

I created this one using acrylic paints, oil pastels, conte crayons and graphite dust. I also used impasto for some places on this piece. It's certainly interesting to look at. I like it. Since my husband likes it I put it over his desk:) Hopefully, it will inspire him while he's making music. This is only temporary, as I intend to send this one off to a good home! I just like to decorate my house with my art.

That's "Love and Beauty Meet" (photograph in my shop), and "Jacob's Ladder" (Original Oil Painting) up on the wall. That's my side of the bed, and I love seeing them when I first wake up! BTW, I do not use those weights that are on the dresser:) Wish I had time...

Having more art in the house has certainly improved our moods. I can see now that my husband is a little more motivated to clean up, and keep the place looking nice. I'm so happy. Finally! Who knew that a couple of pictures nailed up on the wall would do so much?

This is why people NEED art. It's not just there for decoration. It's there because it's essential. Why else would our ancestors have bother painting in caves? These weren't just cave paintings either. They were sacred places. Places where people gathered to contemplate daily life, humanity, god...

Art is God with an extra 'O', as Kanye West would say;-)

Roll Out

Describing the new work is a little difficult...I admittedly create my art based soley on my emotions. My new art is a reflection of that. I've just been feeling like recycled poo. Not to say that I think my art looks the same, but I wanted to create things that reflected these emotions. Very moody, and contemplative.

I really felt compelled to create something with a sense of immediacy. This is how I feel now: hurry up, go, go GO! I think the art expresses that. These are all up in my etsy shop, and priced to move.

In the coming days there will be a huge roll out of art that is VERY affordable price, and ready to go. I'm on a creating spree, and I want this stuff to find good homes.

Fall of an Angel

A new painting available in my etsy shop. I'm extremely excited about it. I don't know if I could ever part with it! It looks so nice decorating my walls...

It's a bit of a moody, and depressing picture; that's how I've felt lately. My art has an uncanny ability to mock my emotions. My husband says that my 'new' art is starting to disturb him. He says that the work really moves him.

I'm just trying to get a response from people. I want my viewers to think. To feel. I think that we've become emotionally numb to the world around us. My goal is to change that.

Work, work, work...and love

I've been hard at work on my etsy art shop...no bites, but nothing new there. I've been really depressed about it for the past couple of weeks. The usual reasons, of course. So, last week I decided that I would start applying for jobs again. What did I have to lose besides free time? I didn't really expect any employers to call me back. I've been unemployed for almost two years now, and I haven't had any real prospects. Well, guess what? I was contacted not even 12 hours after posting my resume to a job sight. I was over joyed. I coordinated an interview within two days, and on thursday I was offered a job. A REAL JOB. I was offered a full time job making more money than my husband! But...I had to turn the offer down. I finally got a job offer, but I couldn't take it because I'm a full-time student. This is my last semester at the community college, and in December I'll have an associate degree. It's important to note that the only reason why I went back to school was because I couldn't find a job in my field. I'm so angry about this! I was so tempted to drop all of my classes. The drop deadline is November 1st, and it would have worked out perfectly.

Except, not really. I wouldn't be graduating in December, and this would set me back by a whole semester. I called my mom at her job to ask her what I should do. I expected her to yell at me for being stupid enough to turn down a job in this economy. She didn't. She told me everything that I felt in my heart. "It's not worth it. You can get more money."

My husband felt the same way, but I could tell that he was a little disappointed. I don't blame him. He's been supporting me since I was laid off, and I feel useless. I can't get a job in my field, and neither of my businesses are bringing in a consistent income.

What can I do? The only thing that I've ever been good at was art, and I can't even make a living doing that. That makes me...worthless. I've been working super hard for the past year: going to school full-time, working (below a living wage), and trying to support myself making art and jewelry. Yet, I have nothing to show for it.

Then, the weekend came. On Saturday, not only did we take our daughter Trick or Treating, but we also celebrated the 1st year of our marriage. After weeks of crying myself to sleep, that day made me cheer up a bit.

Mayoree played the role of a not so happy devil :) BTW, this is not a costume. She has horns, and a tail all the time :-)

The cake, courtesy of my dad-in-law. I told him that I wanted a cake that was creepy, and had blood splatter and dripping blood. He said he made the 'blood' using granulated sugar and red food coloring.

We also had a chance to pig out on snacks. Mayoree ate a ton of candy. She stayed up until 2 am watching scary movies with us.

So, I have to say that the weekend really improved my mood. I didn't get a chance to work on any art, but I enjoyed myself. I'm still trying to get over the flu, but I'll live. I think that I may have pnemonia....but I don't have the time to go to the doctor. Maybe next week. I just hope my inhaler lasts until then.

BTW, this is me and my husband from our honeymoon last year. We had a TON of fun in Toronto. It's the coolest place on earth.

An Angel

It's important to note that this actually started as an abstract painting.

I'm not an abstract painter, but I wanted to try it again. I first dabbled in abstract painting last semester for my painting class. I discovered that I suck at it!

So, when I started making this painting I was going to make an abstract landscape...or something like that. Then this character appeared in the middle of the painting, emerging out of this hellish rift. I think she's an angel. Or at least that's what I intend to make her. Oh yeah, the city behind her was on accident. I just figured that I would add some type of skyline behind her, and there it appeared.

I've had a lot of fun working on this painting so far. It's a project that started as a way to just decorate the space over my couch, but it's much more interesting now.

This is also the biggest painting that I've ever worked on. It measures 40 inches by 36 inches. Now a perfect square, but close. I really like the square format in my artwork after working with medium format photography for the past couple of months. It's nice to break out of the 2/3 format every once in a while.

Here's another shot of the painting. This time without the mess of my workspace to distract the viewer:)

Unfortunately, work will be halted for the next few days. I got the flu a few days ago, and I still have a consistent fever of about 102 degrees:( It's not fun.

Woot! I bought a new camera...A DSLR. So far, I'm having a lot of fun with it. I do have to admit that I like less of the pictures that I take with it. More of my film shots are keepers. But, for color work the DSLR will help save me some money.

Drawing II, again?

So, I'm really pissed right now. I finally got my admissions letter from the College for Creative Studies, and I'm really pissed.

1)I got less award money than what I thought I was going to get.
2)A lot of the classes that I took at HFCC are not going to transfer over. As in about 15 credits worth!
3.)They're making me retake Drawing 2! WTF!!!!

I could understand if this was the second time I've had to retake Drawing 2, but this is the THIRD TIME! And, yes, I was yelling. There are no words for how angry this -ish makes me.

So, I'm going to march my tale down to the school and protest against this. I don't think that I should have to retake this class. I'm hoping that I win the battle against them, because I really don't feel like this is fair.

I have no idea why I did this... I was about to develop my film. For some reason I opened up the tank! I can't even remember why I did it. I just wasn't thinking. The tank had both rolls of my Ilford Delta 400 in it. I did those rolls first because the have DXN coding. It is the only film I own that can be commercially scanned. I'm really bummed now:(

What I had for dinner...

I'm so proud of my husband. He finally learned how to cook delicious meals, thanks to our Palestinian friend. The ingredients are:

Meat (he's used chicken, beef and shrimp so far, but you could probably sub seitan)
carrots
green or red bell peppers
mushrooms
onions
squash
zucchini

Spices:
paprika
chili powder
curry powder
thyme
sea salt

Heat the pan up, and add vegetable oil. Add in the chopped ingredients and spice to flavor.

You can serve this over rice, but I prefer it with quinoa.

So, today is the first day of summer classes. The financial aid office is beyond packed. When I first got down here I had almost 300 people ahead of me in line. Now, I only have about 30 people ahead of me. I still have to go and buy my textbooks from the bookstore AND read all the stuff out of the textbook by tomorrow. This is incredibly stressful and almost more trouble than what it's worth.

Part of the problem is the fact that I didn't take care of this weeks ago. That's my fault. I'm a habitual procrastinater. But the school does need to get some help in their financial aid department. I'm sure that over 80% of the students here are receiving aid. Why can't they get some more people in here to help? This is just insane.

Of course this is the day that my husband and I were supposed to quit smoking. I don't know if I can do it...I'm just under so much stress right now.

So, I guess I'll just try to calm down, and think about anything other than a cigarette.

Apple, WIP Day 3

Today I started the first color layer. Whoo! I was really excited about it, but then quickly became depressed when I discovered:

1.)My dead layer wasn't dry. So....yeah.

2.)Either the grey is shining through too much, or the pigments in Dick Blick's paint isn't that strong. I know that pthalo green is pretty transparent, but their paint has no coverage power. Bummer.

3.)A second, and probably third color layer will be necessary.

I've been working on other things as well, but I'm not happy with them anymore. I just get depressed when I look at other people's work. I feel like I'm so far behind. I don't know how I could fix the problem. I don't think that MORE education would be the solution.

Anyway, I also started working on a portrait of my husband. I want to show my teacher that I haven't been totally slacking during the break.

Apple, WIP Day 2

I'm now in the 'dead layer' stage of this painting. I think that it will be dry tomorrow, and then I'm going to apply the first color layer.

Some notes about the painting:

1.)I skipped the second umber layer, and I believe that is why the background looks more brown, instead of black. I applied black to the background, but the umber layer is still shining through. I'll just have to correct that in the color layer.

2.)The top of the apple still needs some work. One of my options is to fix it in the color layer. This will probably be quicker and more practical instead of fixing the (drying) dead layer.

3.)Some of my highlights are popping a little too much. BUT, I read that you are supposed to make your lights lighter than what they really are. I hope they were right.

4.)I'm a little concerned about the uneven drying of the oil. I don't know if that's normal...I hope so.

So, when I wake up tomorrow I'm going to work on my first color layer. This is going to be so much fun! I'm really excited about this painting. It's part of the portfolio that I have to give my painting instructor. That's on Tuesday morning. I'm praying that it will be dry by then.

I'm going to try to start on my next painting before I go to sleep, but I don't know if that's going to happen. I was supposed to start that today, but I've been too busy. I was exhausted from the week.

This week is going to be really exhausting. I'm going to school from 9 am until 10 pm. I only have a 2 1/2 hour break during the whole day. Yay.

Apple, WIP Day One

So....I've started another painting while the other is drying. This time, I'm taking a bit of a different approach to the whole process. I wanted to change my painting style a little, and study what is now called the classic realism style. This style requires a LOT of time and patience, but the rewards are great. So, I went over to WetCanvas, and this site as well, and I found a wealth of information about how to do it.

I went to Lowe's and purchased a 4'x4' panel of 1/8 in. birch wood for about $17. Then I had them quarter the panel into 4 2'x2' panels. They do it for free! When I got the wood home I primed the panels with three coats of gesso, making sure that I sanded with a really smooth grade of sanding paper. The surface of the boards is heavenly. Today I drew my picture on the birch panel using a black Millennium zig pen that has a .05 point. After that I used acrylic paints to lay down the Imprimatura layer. I was happy with the results, and so I continued on to the 1st umber layer. I'm waiting for that to dry now. I'm still not clear on how long it's supposed to take, but I hope it doesn't take a whole week to dry. Maybe I don't have enough patience for this painting style? I would really like to paint like this man, but I don't have the skill yet. I plan on copying this picture anyway...This is my favorite painting.

BTW, I'm sorry about the glare in the photo. The painting is still super wet, and I took the picture at night.

This is about how the painting still looks. I've been tweaking it here and there, but progress has slowed a little.

1.)The model's foot is incomplete in my original drawing. So, I'm going to take some refrence photos of my foot to finish that portion.

2.)The face is incomplete in my drawing. I have an idea of what the face should look like but it's going to be a challenge to paint. The size of her face is only about 2x3 inches, and it's hard for me to control the paint at the size. Oh well. Looks like I'll learn something from this painting.

3.)I'm still unhappy with the color of the chair, but I'm not as concerned about it as I was. I purchased Payne's Grey, and that's better than just using Ultramarine for the shadows.

So....I'm going to fil in the bottom of this painting, and then maybe start on another painting. I need some parts of this to dry before I can work on some of the finer details.

I totally am not in the Christmas spirit right now. First of all, I've only had a total of 7 hours of sleep in the past 3 days. Second, it's been snowing since about 10 am, and HAS NOT STOPPED.
Oh, wait. It did stop...to sleet. Then it started snowing again. Third, the medicine that I'm taking for my UC makes me feel weird.

WARNING: Long-term use of this medication increases the risk of developing neoplasias (cancerous or noncancerous growths). Azathioprine can also cause blood disorders (e.g., leukopenia). Immediately notify your doctor if you develop unusual growths, easy bruising or bleeding, or signs of infection such as persistent sore throat or fever.

USES: Azathioprine is used to prevent rejection of transplanted organs and for cases of severe arthritis that do not respond to other therapies.

OTHER USES: This medication may also be used to treat ulcerative colitis and for other purposes as determined by your doctor.

My daughter is super excited about Christmas. She keeps telling us that Santa is going to bring her all types of toys. We put the christmas tree up tonight when I got home from work.

Mayoree and my husband did most of the work. They did a pretty good job. Now she's happy.

The best part about today was the little doodle that I finished at work. It's called "Evil Eye". I don't know what the hell to do with it, but at least I'm producing work.

I stayed up really late last night trying to come up with ideas for my artwork, and what to do with said art. How I could/would sell it, blah, blah blah. I want to be able to make prints and greeting cards. Maybe stationary sets...But it all seems so expensive. It takes money to make money. I would have to invest even MORE money into my business, and then wait to turn a profit. I still haven't made a profit from my jewelry business!! How could I start making art prints? How do people afford this stuff without going into debt?

Meltdown....

Ok, I'm back. This is the ATC/ACEO that I came up with. I'm neutral about it.

So, then I worked 8 hours at that hell hole that I call a job. Now I am completely exhausted and tapped of all creative juices. But I did get one of my orders shipped out. Yay. Now, I just have one other package to deliver.

The second attempt at a decent Marie Antoinette portrait. I'm happy with this one. It's not perfect, but it's something.

During this snowy weekend I've had time to think about what I wanted to do: with my business and with my future. Becoming an artist is what I always wanted to do. I just never understood how I could make that dream a reality. Well, I've gotten older, and now I understand what I have to do. In order to become a professional artist I have to really work on the craft. I thought that by working towards my BFA the course work would help me...but that's just a small part of what I need to do. If I want to be an artist I have to work at it everyday. Period.

So, here I go.

Well, I've been busy busy busy since I finished this semester (a 3.5 GPA!!). I've been making lots of little ACEOs to amuse myself and keep my sanity.

"Marie". I used a painting of Marie Antoinette, and illustrated it. This one was lots of fun to make. Pen, ink, markers, watercolor. On watercolor paper.

I made this one today. You can tell I was bored. What can I say?! I was snowed in...

This is "The Empress". It's part of my tarot series. This is the first card of the major Arcana that I've done. I hope to do my own set, but I can't imagine how long that would take.

The Past Few Months

I've been crazy busy for the past few months, but with my wedding done, and my finals completed (as of yesterday), I can finally do what I want to do.

Back in August I decided that I wanted to finish my fine arts degree. I was really excited about it, but now I see why I got so discouraged the first time around: the teachers. What is it about teaching art that makes these teachers such jerks? My Life Drawing professor was constantly tearing me down this past semester, and I still don't understand why. He even selected some of my work to hang in the school's gallery. Why did he pick on me so much? I understand that I am but a lowly mortal, and he is an art god (scoff). Anyway, I have the same teacher for Painting 2, and I'm not happy about. This time, I will make war with him.

About a month ago I started creating polymer clay jewelry, and it's a lot of fun! Pictures coming soon!

Frustrations

First, let me start with a list of things that I'm grateful for.

1)My part-time job. (This is how I'm funding my business). Also, it helps me remember why I would rather work for myself, but I won't go into that ;)

2)A family that supports my dream of being a professional artist.

3)My best friend for giving me the idea to start my own business.

4)Etsy and my Etsy friends for constantly encouraging me to continue (even when times are rough).

That's all I can think of right now.

I've been really discouraged by this new painting that I'm working on. It looked so good earlier, but now I have to start all over again. I won't complain too much because painting helped me relieve my frustration. I also realized how much better I am at painting! I was looking over my old paintings recently, and I asked myself "Why did I stop?" So, I decided to start again. Conclusion: Art is GOOD! It's therapeutic for me. This is one of my old paintings. I'm still pretty proud of it.

Last night I found a really cool artist on Etsy. You should check out his stuff. I have my eyes set on his ACEO's.

I also like his "Place Title Here" series.

Also, there is a shop on Etsy called Sagittarius Gallery. She paints with her palette knife, and her paintings are incredible. The colors are bright and pure. Visit her shop! Be sure to look at her profile to view her resume.

She's an inspiration to me.

About a month ago there was a discussion on etsy about how many people are actually making a living. The former CEO of Etsy, Rob Kalin, says that

"There are 200,000 sellers making their livings from Etsy,"

in this article.. Who are these people? Where can I meet them!? Of course his figure caused a lot of controversy on etsy. Go here to read the heated discussion.

Last, but not least, there is the matter of how much money I've made from my business. I've made 2 sales for a total of 24 dollars. I've been in business for about 3 months. SOOOO, that means I'm only making about .26 cents/day. That's pathetic! Why do I even bother?

My First Wire Wrapped Pendant

I'm so proud of myself! I finally made a wire wrapped pendant that didn't look hideous.

I wrapped the bail wrong, but I did figure out why it's wrong. It doesn't look too bad. I'm going to do a few more to make sure that I really understand what I'm doing now. Then, I'll do more experiments. I never knew that wire wrapping could be so frustrating. Thankfully, this pendant makes it all worth my time.

I wish that I knew what the stone is. I bought that stone years ago, and even then I didn't know what it was. I got it in a mixed bag of stones. If someone knows what the stone is please tell me! I would really appreciate it:)

No new success but plenty of failures

I've been working on new designs like crazy, but none of them turn out well. I've been experimenting with different wire wrapping techniques, and I just can't do it! Everything that I make turns out crappy or stupid looking. You would think that after two weeks of experimenting I'd have figured something out. Nope. Just crap.

For example, here's a picture of a wire wrapped ring I made last Saturday. It looks OK, but not something that I would sale.
Keeping it for myself.
I think that I could try the design one more time, but make some improvements on the design. Next time, I'll plan the wrapping first, and then execute the design. I usually jump in without thinking about what I'm doing.

I made another ring as well. I'm still not sure how I feel about it. It has an earthy, and organic look to it. Me and my boyfriend call it the 'borg' ring. It just looks kind of sci-fi, cyberpunk/steampunk.
I just don't know how to feel about it.

Last, there are these pearl and jade hoop earrings I made. I love them, but no one else does. I think they're so cute. I'm just going to keep them for myself.
I like the gold, white and purple together.

"Twilight" is finally coming out!

I feel like such a kid, but I love this series! I can't believe that it comes out on December 12th. I'm going to force my boyfriend to come with me to the movies. We'll probably be surrounded by a sea of teenage girls, but I don't care. The actor casted for the role of Edward is HOT!

If you are a fan of the series you will love the jewelry that's inspired by it.

I'm off to read "New Moon"! I'm so glad that the new book comes out on Saturday. I'll have week to read the whole series.

Lately, I've wanted to get back into drawing. Then I doubted myself. I asked, "Why should I start again? I wasn't good at it." I've started to reconsider that point...When I was attending art college I had one idea drilled into my head: You have to draw this way, or it isn't good. Now that I've grown older I see that art should be different, and not just following the current trend. Anyway, enjoy my trip back down memory lane :)

This little butterfly decided to rest it's wings amongst the flowers...

When I made this necklace my goal was to create something that would be perfect a woman's summer wardrobe. Here it is.

This necklace is my newest creation, and can be found on www.etsy.com, as always.

The chains are silver plated, and so is the toggle clasp. The beads are frosted glass flowers. So cute! The length of this necklace is 20 inches (minus the toggle clasp) and the pendant measures 1 1/4 in x 1 1/2 ( at the widest point).
